Salary Range: $48,300.00 – $98,678.40

Position Location: Office of Teaching and Leading, Gordon Persons Building, Montgomery

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), Educator Preparation Section, intends to employ two (2) Education Specialist I positions.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with Alabama Education Preparation Providers (EPPs) and other higher education stakeholders to update and maintain the Educator Preparation Chapter of the Alabama Administrative Code.
  • Serve as the designated liaison for some of Alabama’s 25 EPPs and assist other colleges and universities as needed, to ensure their continuous compliance with rules in the Educator Preparation Chapter of the Alabama Administrative Code.
  • Serve as CAEP liaison for Alabama’s 25 EPPs, attend CAEP meetings, and facilitate CAEP reviews and processes.
  • Collaborate with Alabama EPP personnel and other higher education stakeholders to fully develop, implement, and maintain the Educator Preparation program, institution review process, and compliance models. Facilitate the review of new programs or changes in existing programs.
  • Manage and implement continuous improvement processes for each EPP.
  • Provide in-person and virtual training and consultation to EPP personnel and SDE colleagues on various topics.
  • Gather data from EPPs to prepare a variety of reports to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and deadlines (e.g., Title II, EPP report card).
  • Gather data from EPPs to create meaningful data dashboards and accountability systems.
  • Assist EPPs with implementing requirements of the Literacy and Numeracy Acts.
  • Work with EPPs on creating new and working on existing articulation agreements.
  • Work with EPPs to create programs based on current research.
  • Respond to requests for information from various educational entities.
  • Implement and monitor compliance of rules for Alternative Preparation Organizations.
  • Analyze data and provide reports on trends and research on current best practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders on projects and initiatives to enhance the profession.
  • Perform additional duties as related to assigned responsibilities to ensure Section/Department goals are met.

Education:

  • A minimum of Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialty area.

Experience:

  • Seven years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment.

Required Skills/ Abilities:

Preference will be given to otherwise qualified applicants who:

  1. hold an earned education doctorate from a regionally accredited college or university and
  2. have experience working with institutions of higher education or at an institution of higher education.
