Position Title: Education Administrator II (Section Head)

Position Code: 30124

Salary Range: $84,664.80 – $142,454.40

Position Location: Montgomery, AL or Birmingham, AL

Open Date: April 1, 2024


The AMSTI section of the Alabama State Department of Education (Montgomery) intends to fill one Education Administrator II (Section Head) position.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Lead the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs within guidelines established by the Department.
  • Ensure coordination of services and articulation between elementary, secondary, and post-secondary levels.
  • Collaborate with AMSTI site directors to monitor the implementation of training and support of building-based mathematics coaches per the Alabama Numeracy Act expectations (to include content training and pedagogical content knowledge training).
  • Recommend budget line items and coordinate the purchasing of AMSTI instructional materials and equipment.
  • Direct the collection and analysis of data to guide AMSTI and STEM-related curricular and instructional decisions.
  • Ensure that the instructional professional development engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity, and that they provide a variety of methods for the student to demonstrate performance and achievement.
  • Stay informed on current research in curriculum development, instructional design, delivery, and assessment within STEM fields.
  • Summarize, interpret, and disseminate current developments in instruction, learning theory and cognitive research through reading of professional journals, participation in professional development and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Complete, in a timely fashion, all AMSTI proposals, administrative documents, records, and reports as required by law.
  • Oversee the personnel appraisal process for education administrators, education specialists, and administrative assistants; maintain accurate personnel records and supervisory documentation.
  • Travel in-state and out-of-state is required.

Education and Experience:

  • Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • A minimum of Master’s degree and advance coursework from an accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialist area.
  • Minimum of seven years of professional experience in AMSTI or other STEM related field of teaching, education administration, or a related leadership assignment.
  • Education/Administrative leadership experience
