Position Title: Education Specialist II
Position Code: 30120
Salary Range: $55,375.20-$107,824.80
Position Location: Pupil Transportation, Regional Position (Statewide)
Open Date: April 2025
The Pupil Transportation section of the Alabama State Department of Education (Montgomery) intends to fill one (1) Education Specialist II position.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Develop partnerships with LEA Pupil Transportation Sections
- Conduct training and certification for Alabama school bus drivers as required by Alabama Law and the Rules of the Alabama State Board of Education
- Conduct performance testing for Alabama school bus drivers as required by Alabama Law & the Rules of the Alabama State Board of Education
- Draft/compose/edit documents (response letters, reports, policies, procedures, regulations)
- Participate in the development of statewide training and support for School Bus Driver Recertification classes and New Driver classes
- Coordinate details, logistics, physical arrangements for ALSDE training events and meetings
- Provide technical assistance in pupil transportation to local school systems, to include bus traffic patterns, accident investigations, proper procedures, & eliminating road hazards
Education:
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialty area.
Experience:
- Minimum of six years of experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment including three years of professional experience.
- Must have Alabama School Bus Certification
Required Skills/ Abilities:
- Strong motivation, organization, and data management skills
- Ability to work on multiple assignments concurrently, use problem-solving skills to generate solutions, and create and deliver effective presentations to professional audiences
- Ability to objectively instruct, evaluate, & test prospective bus drivers, and accurately determine their ability to safely operate a school bus
- Excellent leadership and people/relationship building skills
- Team oriented with proven ability to work well with others and flexible
- Ability to travel overnight
