Salary Range: $50,253.60 – $102,664.80

Position Location: Child Nutrition Programs, Montgomery

Open Date: June 2025


The Child Nutrition Programs/Summer Food School Programs Section (SUN Program) of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) intends to fill a minimum of one (1) Education Specialist I position.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Writes/composes letters, memorandums, reports, using correct content and format on a level appropriate for the designated audience( s ).
  • Reads, interprets, and proofs job-related info1mation such as regulations, procedures, and guidelines; then sorts and files these materials in an appropriate manner so as to be retrieved and used as needed.
  • Assists in interviewing prospective clients to dete1mine potential eligibility for the SUN Program, posing questions to acquire necessary information from the client( s) in a manner that ensures that the client(s) are aware of the steps necessary to make the application.
  • Designs forms in order to collect and evaluate information necessary to meet regulations for applying for participation in the SUN Program, by collecting related information on the same form(s) and providing adequate written instructions for clients.
  • Develops, plans, and executes long-term and short-term plans for meetings, training sessions, activities, etc. (including content and development of materials) in order to meet all existing and newly adopted federal and/or state regulations for the SUN Program.
  • Assists in maintaining application info1mation for approved and denied sponsors of the SUN Program in a manner that is retrievable during Federal and State audits or reviews, so that no significant findings are identified.
  • Visits, evaluates, and monitors through on-site visits, potential and existing sponsors for
    participation in the SUN Program.
  • Assists in the training of new staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an education specialty area

Experience:

  • Minimum of five ( 5) years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a CNP-related assignment.
