Position Title: Education Administrator I

Salary Range: $58,111.20-$125,304.00

Position Location: Office of Teaching and Leading-Montgomery

Open Date: October 2025


The Educator Certification Section is seeking to fill one (1) Education Administrator I position.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Coordinate the delivery of results from background checks so that all records are retrieved, disseminated, and maintained with complete accuracy and required confidentiality.
  • Coordinate the processing of background checks for the State Superintendent’s review process so that accurate records are retrieved and maintained and correct procedures are followed for each case
  • Provide training, create presentations, and advise local education agency representatives, institutions of higher education representatives, and other individuals regarding background check requirements and processes.
  • Compose emails, letters, forms, etc. concerning background review procedures and requirements.
  • Manage background check vendor relationships with the third party fingerprint vendor, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, and ALSDE.
  • Maintain, gather, organize and present information for Alabama Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation audits.
  • Instruct and supervise Background Check Review staff so that all work is accomplished daily by the staff in a manner consistent with established procedures.
  • Work with the Office of General Counsel regarding applicants’ background review files.
  • Assist with the coordination of processing background checks of individuals who are under investigation.
  • Initiate and facilitate timely communication with LEAs, applicants, law enforcement agencies, etc., regarding files under investigation.
  • Provide testimony at Administrative Hearings with complete accuracy.
  • Review files and report findings to LEAs/IHEs of individuals who the State Superintendent has acted against their certificate(s).
  • Work with Information Systems to define and test modifications and enhancements to systems that support the section’s processes.
  • Work with staff on the development of the Online Application System to ensure background review processes work correctly and efficiently.
  • Actively participate in NASDTEC operations to ensure timely reporting of misconduct to other state jurisdictions.
  • Ensure educators are aware of ethical and unethical behaviors.
  • Assist colleagues in accomplishing additional short-term tasks so that office operations flow smoothly and section responsibilities are accomplished without delay.
  • Other assignments as needed to accomplish Division/Section responsibilities and Department goals.

Education:

  • Must meet the minimum requirements as noted on the State Personnel Department Job Announcement

Experience:

  • Must meet the minimum requirements as noted on the State Personnel Department Job Announcement
  • Interview preference will be given to school or district level administrative experience
  • Interview preference will be given to individuals with working knowledge of and experience with Educator Certification/Background Reviews
