The Office of Student Learning of the Alabama State Department of Education is seeking to hire a part-time Retired State Employee to support the work of the Office of Extended Learning (OXL), within the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI) section.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Gather and review data regarding summer- and after-school learning opportunities to identify gaps impacting students, program needs, resource development needs, and highlight promising practices and effective programs for accelerating student learning.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance and professional learning for LEAs and community-based organizations to build their capacity with summer- and after-school learning opportunities, as well as leveraging partnerships.
  • Demonstrate professional and collaborative behaviors that represent the ALSDE in a positive light and support the goal and mission of the Office of Student Learning.
  • Keep accurate records of documenting levels of support for LEAs and community-based organizations.
  • Perform additional duties as related to assigned responsibilities and essential functions, which include, but are not limited to, travel. (Reimbursement for travel expenses provided within state guidelines.)

Education:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialty area

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience
  • Preferred experience in educational leadership and/or summer- and after-school programs
