The Professional Learning Section of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE), Montgomery, intends to fill multiple Education Specialist I positions.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Communicate written and oral information to immediate supervisor, staff, and public stakeholders.
- Review and approve professional learning content submitted for Professional Learning Units (PLUs) and clock hours needed for certification renewal and the Principal Act.
- Provide professional learning opportunities for leaders implementing the Principal Mentoring and Leadership Act, the School Leadership Standards, Alabama Core Teaching Standards, the dimensions of the teacher observation tool in relation to the Alabama Teacher Growth Program and overall effectiveness of the implementation of the leadership requirements, including but not limited to technical assistance.
- Develop and facilitate presentations and conduct training sessions with internal and external agencies.
- Collaborate with the Alabama Regional Inservice Center directors, education associations, and other stakeholders to develop the leadership observation tool and leadership evaluation.
- Conduct office functions to include, but not limited to, proofreading, editing, and revising to avoid errors in punctuation, grammar, formatting, routing, and other functions as appropriate to effectively support the work of the Department’s initiatives assigned to Professional Learning in accordance with the supervisor’s directives, within a timely manner.
- Operate office equipment and utilize various computer software programs to produce office documents efficiently.
- Sort, collate, order, and assemble materials such as workshop handouts, department documents, program resources, professional learning pre- and post- set-up and take down, and other tasks related to the Professional Learning efficiency following oral and/or written instructions for supervisor and from own initiative to prepare materials for distribution, shipping, and/or storage as evidenced by observation and feedback from the supervisor without valid delay.
- Participate and attend all train-the-trainer sessions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- A minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the area of Education.
- A certification in Instructional Leadership (Education Administration), strongly preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience is required.
- Experience in leadership, including coaching experience, strongly preferred.

- Strong knowledge and use of technology support applications as related to specific job functions (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, and email)
