The Office of Student Learning of the Alabama State Department of Education intends to fill one Education Administrator II—Instructional Services Coordinator position.
The Instructional Services Coordinator provides statewide leadership and support for instructional programs and services that promote high-quality teaching and learning for all students. This position collaborates with Alabama local education agencies (LEAs), ALSDE sections, and external partners to coordinate curriculum implementation, instructional guidance, professional learning, policy communication, and support systems that advance student achievement and educational excellence across the state.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Lead and coordinate needs assessment, goal setting, and the work of Instructional Services staff in partnership with other Alabama State Department of Education sections and external educational agencies to support local education agencies (LEAs).
- Coordinate awareness, communication, and ongoing review of the Alabama Administrative Code (AAC) through the development and maintenance of resources and guidance that support LEAs in understanding and implementing state requirements.
- Oversee the alignment, implementation, and professional learning opportunities associated with standards-based instruction through the development and revision of Alabama Courses of Study and related professional learning initiatives.
- Facilitate ongoing support and technical assistance to LEAs regarding graduation requirements, dual enrollment, credit recovery, credit advancement, summer school, Advanced Placement, non-traditional high school diploma options, subject and personnel codes, and other related instructional matters through collaboration with other ALSDE sections.
- Coordinate and oversee support, resources, and training for State Course of Study Committees, Review Committees, State Textbook Committees, and LEA Textbook Committees to ensure effective implementation of curriculum and instructional resources.
- Assist in the development, communication, implementation, and annual revision of comprehensive ALSDE guidelines and processes within the Office of Student Learning, collaborating across sections to ensure LEAs receive consistent information and technical assistance.
- Oversee the implementation of Alabama’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including the development of training, resources, and tools that support student success.
- Oversee the preparation and management of budgets, contracts, purchases, memoranda of agreement, and property inventory for assigned programs and initiatives.
- Supervise and monitor assigned personnel through the personnel appraisal process, personnel records management, supervisory documentation, and other management practices that support department efficiency and effectiveness.
- Facilitate the alignment of library media, health education, physical education, arts education, school counseling, attendance initiatives, mental health awareness efforts, and English Learner supports through collaborative leadership, training resources, and statewide frameworks that promote consistency and communication across LEAs.
The applicant must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the following:
- Educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, instructional support, and educational program administration.
- Alabama Courses of Study, state graduation requirements, curriculum review processes, and instructional support systems.
- Federal and state requirements, including the Alabama Administrative Code, that guide instructional programming and LEA implementation.
- Instructional initiatives related to Alabama’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), school counseling, library media, health education, physical education, arts education, attendance, mental health awareness, and English Learner supports.
- Design and delivery of high-quality professional learning and technical assistance for teachers, administrators, and instructional support personnel.
- Use of data to guide decision-making, including needs assessments, surveys, program evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement processes.
- Project management, strategic planning, resource development, and implementation of statewide instructional initiatives.
- Fiscal responsibility, including identifying needs, prioritizing funds, managing complex budgets, and overseeing contracts, purchases, memoranda of agreement, and property inventory.
- Personnel supervision, appraisal processes, records management, supervisory documentation, and effective management practices.
- Effective collaboration with LEA leaders, school personnel, ALSDE sections, external educational agencies, and other stakeholder groups.
Education and Experience:
- Must meet the minimum requirements as noted on the State Personnel Department job announcement for Education Administrator II.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an approved subject-matter or education specialty area.
- Seven years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment, including five years of professional experience in an approved specialty area and one year of supervisory or administrative experience.
- Advanced graduate study in approved coursework may be substituted for required experience as allowed by the State Personnel Department; however, it may not be used to substitute for required supervisory or administrative experience.
- Alabama Professional Educator Certificate preferred.
- Experience leading curriculum, instruction, school leadership, instructional support, or statewide educational program initiatives preferred.
- Experience providing professional learning and technical assistance to educators, school leaders, and LEA personnel preferred.
- Experience supervising personnel, managing budgets, coordinating contracts, and leading large-scale educational programs preferred.

- Use other digital tools and platforms needed to develop, manage, communicate, and share instructional resources.
