Marie Manning grew up in rural Dekalb County, graduated from Crossville High School, attended Jacksonville State University where she received her BS in Biology and MS in Instructional Media, and completed Postgraduate Studies at the University of Alabama, Gadsden Center, in School Administration.  She is the retired Superintendent of Education of the St. Clair County School System, has served as consultant/evaluator for various school systems, Principal at Ashville Middle School, Assistant Principal at Ashville High School, and Library Media Specialist and Science Teacher in the Pell City School System.  She began her career in teaching at Munford High School teaching Physical Education and Science in the Talladega County School System.  Most recently, Marie served 12 years as a member of the St. Clair County Board of Education.  During that time, she was a member of the Alabama Association of School Boards Board of Directors.

 

Marie Manning believes that it is important to give back to the community where one lives.  That belief propelled her into public service through her church and civic organizations.  She is a member of Pell City First Baptist Church, Pell City Rotary Club, The Capitol Club, and others.  Her husband has retired as a member of the St. Clair County Commission where he served 36 years.  Thru his work with the county, she had many opportunities for public service.

 

Married 42 years to Paul Manning, they have one daughter, Leann Ford and her husband, Mark.  Both are educators.   Marie has two grandsons, Cade Walker, and Barrett Ford.

 

Education and working to improve at all levels have been at the forefront of her work.  A conservative, she believes that all children deserve a safe environment in which to learn through a rigorous curriculum.
