Specialized Treatment Centers

Specialized Treatment Centers provide varying levels of services to meet the unique needs of students whose challenges are not typically addressed in a traditional educational setting.

Before receiving any appropriations from the Education Trust Fund, STCs are required to obtain an Educational Endorsement of Operation certification from the Alabama State Department of Education. This endorsement ensures compliance with state and federal requirements while supporting the provision of educational services aligned with each student’s Alabama Diploma Pathway option.

Complaint Process

This complaint process, established pursuant to Section VII of the Settlement Agreement between the United States and the State of Alabama, establishes a mechanism for parents, legal guardians, Educational Surrogates, service providers, STC staff, and students in Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs) to communicate complaints about any STC.

Training and Events
