Five publications have been developed for school administrators, educators, educational interpreters, students, and parents to support language access for deaf and hard of hearing children in general education settings. The publications were developed in collaboration with Dr. Brenda Schick and Boys Town National Research Hospital and are based on the content of Dr. Schick’s Classroom Interpreting website maintained by Boys Town National Research Hospital.

On January 12, 2016, OSEP reaffirmed its guidance to ASHA in this 3/8/07 letter which clarifies how to handle missed sessions due to the child’s absence from school, cancellation for a class or school activity, or the absence of the SLP from school.

This OSEP letter provides guidance in the following three areas relative to Speech or Language Impairment: first, determining adversely affects educational performance in relation to speech or language impairment; second, substitutes and/or make-up of missed therapy sessions; and third, continuum of services for speech or language services.
